Wellsome plants a tree for every counseling session delivered through our platform

Wellsome applies exponential technology to address critical challenges facing our society and help build a more sustainable and inclusive world.

From now on, besides destigmatizing mental health, making prevention the norm, and enabling easy access to care in order to improve people’s holistic well-being, we are also planting trees to offset CO2.

In Germany, poor mental health and high stress at work are now the second most common reason why people take sick leave. As individuals, organizations, and society, we are now more unwell, lonelier and less engaged, productive and connected:

  • 1 out of 5 people globally will develop a mental health condition in the course of their lifetime, and millions more are struggling.
  • In the EU alone, mental ill-health costs the economy €630 billion or 4.2% of GDP, exceeding the burden of cancer, cardiovascular, diabetes, and respiratory disease combined.
  • Organizations that don’t prioritize workplace well-being have higher turnover, absenteeism, and a less-engaged workforce which leads to lower team productivity.
  • Founders of startups and teams working in fast-paced and high-stress environments are much more likely to suffer from depression and have substance abuse issues.

Wellsome brings holistic well-being to a modern workplace. We create digital evidence-based wellness resources and provide easy access to mental health support which combines prevention, prediction, and intervention.

Management and People’s teams often overlook the risk of not understanding or providing their employees easy access to well-being solutions and therefore de-risking the human factor, which is the most valuable part of their organization.

Promoting good health and well-being is a big part of Wellsome’s mission and it is also one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a blueprint and a universal call to action to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Physical, mental, and social sides of health are interrelated, that is why improvements in physical health will impact mental health and vice versa. Both at work and outside work, quality education around the six pillars of well-being (see picture below) can promote and protect individuals’ health through knowledge and developing positive habits, provision of psychological safety, as well as engaging in meaningful activities and relationships.

Partnership with Grow My Tree

Today, we are happy to announce our partnership with Grow My Tree which enables us to positively contribute to one other UN SDG, which is climate action.

"In partnership with Grow My Tree, we plant a tree for every counseling session delivered through our platform." Wellsome team

Every time an employee of Wellsome partner organization books a counseling session, they won’t only contribute to their own mental well-being in a positive way, they will also impact the world in a positive way by helping offset CO2 emissions.

Our friends from the Grow My Tree team have taught us that every person in Germany emits on average 9,600 kg CO2 per year through nutrition, travel, and energy consumption. Even with very mindful actions, we cannot completely reduce our CO2 emission.

”Planting trees allows actors (both individuals and companies) in our global system to neutralize their CO2 emissions, help restore ecosystems and empower communities where it’s needed the most. However, this does not mean that planting trees replace more conscious consumption or necessary legal and governmental environmental restrictions. We have to change on all levels and tree planting is an important lever that helps slow down climate change. At the same time, it empowers local populations to use their own resources sustainably and thus build a new model of global collaboration.

Putting a seed in the ground today is only the start of the greater long-term process which goes way beyond the single tree. By scaling collective action of individuals and organizations, we can restore whole ecosystems to make them healthy and productive for local communities and the planet as a whole.”From our partner Grow My Tree

Trees take time to grow into a healthy forest – so to truly understand the impact of trees, one should not ask the question of what a single tree does today but rather what a whole forest of trees can do in ten years when it is at the peak of its carbon sequestration potential.

Tech for good

Natural resources and the survival of the planet impact people’s well-being, and people’s well-being will have consequences on their ability to manage the changes necessary for a more sustainable environment. UN SDGs are interlinked — strengthening employees’ resilience, including their mental health, is an important step toward healthy and productive organizations, the same as taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts is an important step toward a healthy environment and more sustainable future for all.

The solutions driving positive impact will require widespread partnerships and cooperation, that is why today we’re proud to announce our partnership with Grow My Tree.

When organizations partner with Wellsome, they not only improve workplace well-being but also contribute to lower CO2 emissions which helps build a better future for all.
